Henning Inc. is proud to win this year’s Community Impact Non-Profit of the Year award from the community.
Anchorage: Henning Inc. is proud to announce our recognition as Non-Profit of the Year by our community, a reflection of the dedication and hard work of our entire team. We are truly grateful for this recognition and remain committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.
Since our founding in 2020, following the tragic loss of Shannon Henning, we have focused on providing vital support, emergency sheltering and housing for Alaskans in need. Our peer support and lived experience model has been at the heart of our operations, beginning with our first project in May 2022, where we successfully housed 80 Alaskans at the Aviator Hotel.
Over the years, we’ve achieved remarkable milestones, including helping 100 individuals secure nearly $900,000 in emergency rental assistance and expanding our capacity to serve 400 individuals each night at the Sullivan Arena. In 2023, we launched our Master Lease program, supporting 64 tenants and offering emergency housing to an additional 60 Alaskans. As of today, Henning has successfully transitioned 454 people from shelter to housing.
Last winter, we were proud to serve 81% of Anchorage’s homeless community through various shelters and housing initiatives. Our dedicated case management team has played a vital role in ensuring that many formerly homeless Alaskans maintain stable housing with the necessary supportive services.
“This recognition is a testament to the dedication and resilience of our team,” said Executive Director Shawn Hays. “We are grateful for the community's support, which empowers us to continue our mission of providing critical resources and housing for those in need.”
“This award means so much and is a reflection of the incredible work our team does every day,” stated Operations Director Crystal Abbott. “From our humble beginnings to becoming the largest homeless services provider in Anchorage, it’s heartwarming to see our community acknowledge our impact and dedication to our mission.”
“Our progress is a collective effort, and this award belongs to everyone who has walked beside us” said Strategy Director Alexis Johnson. “It’s a powerful reminder that together, we can create meaningful change and improve the lives of Alaskans facing homelessness. Each step forward reflects the hard work and dedication of our entire community—partners, volunteers, and supporters alike. This recognition motivates us to keep pushing for innovative solutions and stronger support systems for those in need.”
“Ultimately, this achievement underscores the strength of our team’s commitment to making a difference,” said board member Erica Taylor. “We are inspired to carry this momentum forward and work towards a future where every Alaskan has access to safe and stable housing. Together, we can continue to create positive change and uplift those in need.”
